Ingredient Superstar - Marshmallow Root

Marshmallow Root

Botanical Name: Althaea officinalis

Marshmallow Root is known by many other names- Althaea root, sweet-weed, Mallards, guimauve, mortification plant, schloss tea and wymote. The name Alhaea is derived from Greek word which means to cure. Marshmallow root has healing power and has been used from a long time ago. The roots are perennial, tapering and thick. They are tough and the color is whitish yellow outside where as fibrous white inside.
In the middle-east countries, the root extract is often used as flavoring in the preparation of a snack called Halva. The flowers and new leaves on the other hand can be eaten as salads or can be fried.

We 💗 Marshmallow Root for hair because when properly used it can aid in detangling and moisturizing.  On it's own it naturally softens hair, provides superior slip to ease detangling, promotes hair growth, provides natural shine, helps relieve dry scalp and dandruff.

The Marshmallow Root when processed has a rich gelatinous consistency that produces slip when applied to hair.  When applied to the hair and allowed to set for a few minutes, it coats the hair shaft and allows the hair to be combed with ease.  When applied to dry itchy scalp, the jelly has a soothing effect that can provide relief to those with dandruff, eczema or psoriasis.

Remember, properly moisturized hair shows off great curl definition.  We added the superstar ingredient Marshmallow Root to our Blueberry Muffin Leave In Conditioner & Detangler to add natural slip for ease in combing, to boost shine, and soothe scalps .... Naturally!
